About Us

ASQ is a peer-to-peer support group for LBT* persons only. ASQ is a safe space for you if you are: (1) queer, and (2) not a cis man. ASQ is a non-registered support group, operating mainly on the internet and word of mouth. We are based in Bangalore, and so most events and activities planned on this group will be in Bangalore. However, we are open to members from anywhere in the world. We are an evolving community that is Democratic, Leaderless, Inclusive, Respectful and Non-commercial. We are not a registered organisation or an NGO.

History

In 2009, there were 10- 15 queer women*, meeting at Swabhava, wondering what the next chapter was going to be. One voice suggested we start a support group for women and trans folks, as no such support group was available at the time. We collaborated with Vinay Chandran from Swabhava and started holding weekly meetings at their office space.

In 2016, we came together to start ASQ – All Sorts of Queer.

Since then, we have had collaborations with Bangalore Queer Film Festival, Namma Pride and other queer events that take place in the city. We also host regular meetings and discussions online and in person.

Vision

Connecting All Sorts of Queer people from all walks of life.

Activities

We have many formats of meet ups depending on the time of the year. As a group we host a few regular meetings called “Rooted Meetings,” apart from which we also conduct workshops, host movie screenings and participate in other queer events in the city.

Rooted Meeting

Rooted is the name of the meetings we have (usually twice a month) - this is where we discuss anything and everything. Based on the then prevaling situation and needs of the members, we may do this online or in person. Write to us if you would like to attend a Rooted meeting.

Workshops

Depending on what the group requests we conduct workshops. In the past we have conducted workshops around mental health, suicide prevention and others. Write to us if you would like to request a workshop or if you would like to conduct one yourself.

Parties!

We host yearly gatherings during Bangalore Pride month and collaborate with other organizations and collectives occasionally. These are member only gatherings and people on the email subscription/social media ASQ pages will be notified.
